This quote is particularly interesting and thought provoking to me. I spend some time thinking about the fact that being a traveling dame has made me somewhat “homeless”. I grew up in the United States and it always feels like a homecoming when I return, but not really like a home, or a permanent location.
Finding my place would be wonderful of course. But this quote makes me feel better about being on the road, a gypsy of sorts. If my home is in my head then it is always with me. My memories, friendships and love of learning do not get left at my front door, but rather travel with me and enrich my experiences. I am lucky to have an amazing group of friends and family that support me in my trips around the world.
It is daunting though to say “never make a place a home”. Isn’t that what we are all searching for, a place to call home? Perhaps I should accept the fact that I am going to wander the planet forever, always seeking new adventures and new memories. I feel pretty good about that actually.
I’d love to hear your reactions. What do you think about making a place a home?
